Coming from the makers of Khuda Ke Liye and Bol, the latest Pakistani film Verna does come with lots of expectations. The question however is that does the official trailer of Verna starring Mahira Khan ring a bell? Yes, it does! Going by the look and feel of the film, unlike the first two ventures Khuda Ke Liye and Bol, which dealt with the real issues involving women, Verna too deals with women issues but the only difference is that it is a work of fiction. It is primarily a social drama, where Mahira plays the lead role, someone who is taking a revenge on the two men who have played a pivotal role in destroying her life. There are different shades to her character in the film.
The best part is that the promo doesn’t give away the suspense, although, it sets the plot to understand what the film is all about.
In fact, in an interview, the director of the film, Shoaib Mansoor had described, “This film has been written and directed by a man of Pakistan for the men of the world to listen to women. It is to encourage women to speak up.” The film has political as a backdrop. Haroon Shahid and Zarrar Khan play the two leading men in the film. Haroon, in fact, had revealed in February that he had worked with the director of the film Shoaib on the composition of the songs. Also, Mahira Khan, earlier this year had said in an interview with the leading daily in Mumbai that the director wanted her to sing in the film, but I had categorically refused to do so although later in April, it was confirmed that she had recorded her first ever song for the film.
