There’s more to be explored in India's hip-hop scene: Zoya Akhtar confirms Gully Boy sequel

Zoya Akhtar's recent directorial Gully Boy has not just won everyone's hearts but is raking in moolah at the box-office. Based on Indian underground hip hop and rapping scene, Ranveer Singh's act of Murad in the film has been widely hailed, and so were Alia Bhatt's Safeena and Siddhant Chaturvedi's MC Sher.

As the audience cannot stop raving about it, we now hear that a sequel to Gully Boy is in the works. Confirming the same, Zoya confirmed to a leading daily, "My co-writer Reema Kagti and I do feel there’s so much more to be said on the entire hip-hop culture in our country.  And another film exploring the theme is being scripted and planned."

Well, we certainly cannot wait to see more of Murad, right?

When asked if her brother Farhan Akhtar would be a part of Gully Boy 2, Zoya denied it by saying, "He just didn’t fit into Gully Boy. And we’re both sorry about it. Also, his image from the Rock On series is affiliated to an entirely different genre of music. It would have been a  bit of a culture shock for  the audience to suddenly see him swerve from stadium-rock to hip-hop."

Backed by Farhan's and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment along with Zoya’s Tiger Baby Productions, Gully Boy hit the screens on February 14.
