This picture of the Kalank family has more to it than it meets the eye, here’s why!

The teaser of Karan Johar’s upcoming production venture Kalank was launched today amidst a lot of fanfare and media presence. The film has a stellar star cast of Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha and is directed by Abhishek Varman. Kalank’s teaser has been well appreciated and has managed to pique the audience’s interest. The film is slated to release on April 17. At the teaser launch today, the entire star cast looked regal in their chosen designer threads. However, what stood out was the fact that they had colour coordinated their outfits according to their pairing and also according to their characters.

So we have Madhuri and Sanjay in black which presumably goes on to show that they have had a romantic relationship that is frowned upon by the society as Madhuri plays a courtesan and Sanjay is from an elite class. Even in the teaser, they are shown dressed in black and in the picture Varun is standing right behind them like a son, whereas Aditya who plays the legitimate son of Sanjay is farther away from him. Sonakshi and Aditya chose red like a happily married couple. They are playing Dev Chaudhry and Satya Chaudhry respectively and hence the colour red that signifies marriage in Hindu traditions must have been chosen for them at the teaser launch. In the picture, Aditya and Sonakshi share a little intimacy as Aditya's hand is on the back of Sonakshi's chair but Alia who is standing right next to him does not share any intimacy with him, even though she plays his second wife in the film as we see in the teaser.

The surprises were Alia and Varun. Now, this is pure conjecture on our part but we feel that Varun plays the illegitimate child of Sanjay and Madhuri and he came dressed in a white sherwani, probably hinting at the fact that his parentage and the circumstances of his birth is not his fault. On the other hand, Alia who is shown being in love with Varun but gets married to Aditya in the film was also dressed in white, signifying that whatever the underlying agenda her character might have for the Chaudhry family, her love for Varun is pure.
