Aamir Khan is undoubtedly Bollywood’s most seasoned actor and why not. He made a spectacular debut with Juhi Chawla in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 and has been winning hearts ever since. On the occasion of his 54th birthday, Aamir told the media that Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 1942: A Love Story was initially offered to him but he turned down the film as he felt the script wasn’t that great. He also said that Salman Khan’s role in Saajan was offered to him but things again didn’t work out.
“1942: A Love Story was offered to me but I didn't like the script. I even advised Vidhu Vinod Chopra to not make it either, but then the songs of the film worked. Even Saajan was offered to me, I was supposed to do Salman Khan’s role but nothing materialized,” the actor said.

Interestingly, Aamir has delivered superhit films with Vidhu, namely 3 Idiots and PK.
After Aamir rejected, the said role in 1942: A Love Story went to Anil Kapoor and ended up to be one of the latter's best films, studded with some evergreen melodies that will be remembered for generations. Saajan too was commercially acclaimed and grabbed major awards in the year of release, 1991.

In the same year as Saajan released, Aamir worked in Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahi which is considered to be a classic now and in 1994, at the time of 1942: A Love Story release, Aamir showcased his comic timing with Andaz Apna Apna. The film tanked at the box office but is now considered a cult among the film lovers.
However, Aamir doesn't regret his decisions and asserts he learned from all his mistakes and credits those failures for his success today.
