Katrina Kaif said that director Aanand L Rai had approached her for a double role in his 2018 release Zero when he met her for the first time to discuss the film over two years ago. During her appearance on the chat show TapeCast Season 2 with Vicky Kaushal, Katrina spoke about her role of Babita Kumari in Zero – she was cast as a glamorous superstar in the film.
“For that particular role, I think Aanand Rai was super…for Zero, he was always sure that he wanted me to do that. He came to me about two-and-a half years before the film started. Also, at that point, I was supposed to do both the roles. It was a double role and when he came back to me, I was like, ‘Aanand Sir, you took away half my role’,” Katrina said on the show.

Zero co-starred Shah Rukh Khan as a vertically-challenged man and Anushka Sharma as a NASA scientist suffering from cerebral palsy. Speaking about working with Aanand, Katrina added, “We were like at loggerheads for a while in the nicest possible way. I was like Aanand Sir, no, no, no. He explained me his vision. He explained to me the way his vision had kind of changed. And I think he is one of the best directors we have. He was so clear and precise.”
