Abhishek Varman directed and produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios, Kalank is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The film boasts of having a stellar star cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Kemmu. The film’s teaser and the songs have already garnered a lot of buzz amongst the audience. Today, the trailer of the film was launched at an event and it is as breathtaking and spectacular as envisioned.
The trailer of the film is impressive beyond any doubt. It is a visual treat with its elaborate sets and period feel since Kalank is based in the 1940s. Here are seven best things about the trailer that impressed us.
Aditya Roy Kapur

Aditya might not be the main lead in this film as it has an ensemble cast but he impresses in the scenes that he features in. He is a man of principles buoyed down by expectations and rules. He loves his wife Sonakshi and even says so in the trailer yet agrees to get married to Alia which is an intriguing plot twist because we really want to know what compels him to do so.
Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi looks ethereal in the film even more so than Alia and Madhuri. She is playing the role of Satya Chaudhry the first wife of Aditya. Her demeanor spells elegance and class and she comes across as a woman who will always do her duty.
Alia Bhatt
This is a role that has never been done by the versatile actress. She has grey shades to her character torn between her love for Varun and her hatred and anger. The trailer starts with her dialogue, “Mere gusse mein liye ek faisle ne, hum sabki zindagi barbad kar di.” We are highly intrigued about her underlying agenda in Kalank.
Varun Dhawan
Varun is the firebrand of the film. He does not care that he is love with Alia who is a married woman. He is strong, unafraid and aggressive. His performance reminds us of his role in Badlapur. However, he is feistier in Kalank whereas in Badlapur he was more controlled, determined and resolute.
Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt
The trailer does not show a lot of Madhuri and Sanjay yet they come across as exceptionally strong characters. Sanjay is like an oak tree-unyielding and not ready to bend, whereas Madhuri is wise and soft. Her dialogue, “Najayaz mohabbat ka anjaam aksar tabahi hota hai,” foretells what the film might be about.
Kunal Kemmu
Kunal who was missing in the teaser makes his appearance in the trailer and that too in a powerful and strong role. He has only one scene but that is enough for him to make an impact. We would love to know what pivotal role he plays in the film.
The set
Kalank is a period drama set in the 1940s and special mention must be made to the sets and costumes of the film. The sets are spectacular and the look and feel of the film depicts the period it is set in that makes the film a visual treat to watch. Kalank would look amazing on the big screen. Kalank is slated to release on April 17.
