Shouldn’t be taken as a sellable thing: Sunny Deol on the current wave of films promoting nationalism

Sunny Deol, in his career spanning over three decades, has starred in several patriotic films and said that his fans connect with him for the roles that he has been playing so far. Gadar, Indian, Border and The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, are some of the films that he has done based on patriotism and that is because he believed in the roles.

“The most important thing is that are we all patriotic or not. Do we love our mother, our country? That’s the most important thing. It should not be taken as some kind of a sellable thing. Whenever I have done films, it’s because I believed in the characters. Mostly, I have always done films where the characters have been strong, fight for something, and that’s been my nature also. I just go till the end and I am not the kind of person that gives up. Somehow that reflection comes up. I have done films on the patriotic note and people connect with me more,” Sunny said at the trailer launch of his new film Blank in Mumbai on April 4.

During the media interaction, Sunny also spoke about the recent wave of patriotic films that released so far and are yet to hit screens and said that the concept has changed now. Raazi, Parmanu, Satyameva Jayate and RAW are some of the recent films based on a nationalistic subject.

“It was never a sellable thing that we did or something which was….but definitely, now, the whole world has changed. Everything has become marketing and so everything has a reason why we do and what we do. Jis cheez ka season hai, woh banaate hain,” Sunny added.
