Angrezi Medium: Everyone around got emotional after Irrfan gave the first shot, says producer Dinesh Vijan

Irrfan began filming Angrezi Medium in Udaipur on Friday and producer Dinesh Vijan is elated about it as he told a leading daily that it is a “surreal feeling” to have the actor back on set. In 2018, Irrfan revealed on social media that he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour and stayed abroad for the rest of the year for treatment. He returned to India in February to begin work on the film.

“Having him back on the set was a surreal feeling. He’s undoubtedly one of the best actors in the country. When he gave the first shot, everyone around got emotional. For me, it was one of those life-defining moments working with him again after Hindi Medium. Having him and Homi (director Homi Adajania) together was something all three of us have always wanted,” Dinesh told the daily.

Angrezi Medium is the sequel to Irrfan’s 2017 film Hindi Medium and casts the actor as Champak, who owns a sweet shop in Udaipur. Deepak Dobriyal plays Irrfan’s brother in the film. Homi, meanwhile, also spoke to the daily and said that he is looking forward to shooting with Irrfan.

“We’ve been wanting to collaborate for the longest time and I would often dream of that day. Today was better than what I had ever dreamt of. Old school Irrfan doing what he does best - effortless and sublime. We are looking forward to a fun ride on Angrezi Medium,” Homi told the daily.

Irrfan, however, was his “usual self” as he returned to set after a long time - “Wry humour, crackling one-liners and back on his own turf. Deepak and his improvisations brought the house down. It was just like the first day of Hindi Medium,” he added.

Reports, meanwhile, suggest that Kareena Kapoor Khan has been roped in for the film but Dinesh said, “Radhika Madan is playing Irrfan’s daughter but yes, there is another amazing leading lady. Talks are on.”

Irrfan was last seen in 2018’s Karwaan.
