Watch: Varun Dhawan introduces the ‘World of Kalank’, a massive set built by 700 workers over a period of 3 months

In the video, we get to see how the grand set of the film which is based in the 1940s is made. Set in the fictional town of Husnabad, we get to witness the hard work, dedication Kalank. A new behind-the-scenes video has been unveiled by the makers of the much-anticipated period drama and toil of 700 workers for over a span of three months. Varun Dhawan who is playing the role of Zafar in the film was awestruck to see the model of the township and takes the viewers on a tour of Hira Mandi in Husnabad.

Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank stars Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Kemmu and Varun. Varun’s first reaction upon seeing the miniature model of the set in the video is, “very nice ya.” The video will take you back to the India-Pakistan partition era and the makers have done a great job of creating the look and feel of the era. Varun takes the viewers on a tour of the set and shows ‘Zafar’s Ilaka’ and also revealed that a few handicrafts have been procured from Afghanistan.

Cinematographer Binod Pradhan was also in awe of the set and said that this is the largest set he has ever worked on. He compared it to the set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Kalank’s was bigger and massive. Sonakshi could not believe her eyes when she first set foot on the set of the film and exclaimed, “This is madness.” However, probably the best compliment came from lyricist Javed Akhtar who called the Kalank’s set as “unbelievable” and told Aditya who asks him how he liked the set, “Mujhe nahi pata aajkal bhi aise set hota hai. Pakeezah wagaira ka hota tha.”

Kalank is all set to release on April 17.
