Katrina Kaif will star opposite Akshay Kumar in his upcoming film Sooryavanshi as producer Karan Johar informed his fans and followers on social media. “Welcoming the #Sooryavanshi girl on board, #KatrinaKaif! Releasing on Eid 2020!,” Karan wrote on Twitter along with a picture of Katrina with Akshay, director Rohit Shetty and himself.

Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty’s spokesperson also confirmed Katrina’s role in the film yo a leading daily while sources said that she will star as Akshay’s character’s wife.  "Katrina was approached to play the female lead earlier this year and had been in talks with the makers. There were speculations that Pooja Hegde had joined the film but Rohit had negated them. Akshay and Katrina have delivered many blockbusters. As a pair, they are popular with fans, and at the box-office,” a source was quoted as saying by the daily.

Akshay and Katrina co-starred in several films including Singh Is Kingg, Namastey London and Tees Maar Khan.  "Akshay has always suggested Katrina for his movies, but she would turn them down because she was searching for a strong role. As Akshay's wife in this film, she will play a vital part; a pillar of strength as he fights corruption," the source added.

The report also states that Ajay Devgn as Singham and Ranveer Singh as Simmba might also make special appearances in Sooryavanshi. Singham and Simmba are also Rohit Shetty’s films.
