The actor had tweeted about an upcoming project, calling it an 'unknown and uncharted territory' which lead to speculations about him joining politics and contesting elections.

But the actor now confirmed that he won’t be contesting elections. In a tweet Akshay wrote, “Grateful for all the interest shown in my previous tweet but just clarifying in light of some wild speculation, I am not contesting elections.”

According to a leading news portal, Akshay’s Canadian citizenship is honorary, so there is no impediment in him contesting the election. Last month too, reports had surfaced that he may join the BJP, but he had rubbished the rumours and clarified that he has no plans of fighting polls.
