Actor turned politician Sunny Deol, who is contesting from Gurdaspur in the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2019, filed his nomination on Monday and reminded BJP supporters about the character he played in the 2001 film Gadar and said he is a patriot but does not know much about politics. In his speech, he also referred to his 'dhai kilo ka haath' from 1993 film Damini and was quoted by a news agency as saying, “Eh dhai kilo da hathh je kise te penda hai, tan oh uthda nahin, utth jaanda hai."
However, what took everyone by surprise was when Sunny was presented with a hand pump by a supporter in presence of Union ministers VK Singh, Jitendra Singh, and Vijay Sampla apart from his brother Bobby Deol. Check out picture here:
For the unversed, the handpump represented an iconic scene from Gadar, wherein Sunny uproots a similar pump with his bare hands.
Earlier too, Prime Minister Narendra Modi quoted a dialogue from Gadar after his meeting with Sunny. Posting a picture of them together, the PM wrote, "Hindustan Zindabad tha, hai, aur rahega."
What struck me about @iamsunnydeol is his humility and deep passion for a better India.
Happy to have met him today. We are all rooting for his victory in Gurdaspur!
