WATCH: Ali Zafar breaks down on television as he refutes #MeToo allegations against him by Meesha Shafi

A year after singer Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment, the singer-actor recently broke into tears on live television. In the clip from Geo News’ show Naya Pakistan, Ali talked about the difficult time he and his family have been facing for the past one year and stated that he has been a silent sufferer for too long now. He further claimed that Meesha ruined his career through a social media campaign against him. “All of us have been quietly suffering for so long. Not just me, but my family - my kids and my wife too. I haven’t said a single word in the last one year as I had decided to take action legally through court’s procedures. But they have been making fake accounts and tagging everyone who tries to hire me in tweets against me in order to ruin my career,” he said on the show.

After Meesha's viral post, several other women in Pakistan had come out in open against Ali, levelling similar allegations against him. However, on Saturday, Ali urged Meesha to face the court as her case against him was dismissed. "Meesha Shafi's case against me has been dismissed alongside the appeal made against the dismissal. The case in the court is my case against her to pay for damages that her false statement has caused me, which naturally she is trying to run away from," he wrote on Twitter. In fact, he also shared an old video of Meesha and him jamming during a jam session, wherein Meesha has claimed to have been subjected to sexual harassment.

Ali's statements against Meesha have come out just a few days after Pakistan media reported that celebrities and award recipients of Lux Style Awards 2019 staged walkout to protest an invite to Ali. Some artistes even withdrew their names from nominations.
