Neena Gupta has been cast as Akshay Kumar’s character’s mother in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film Sooryavanshi, a leading daily reports. While confirming the news to the daily, Neena said that her role in the film is interesting and her character will depict a new temperament.
“This is an interesting role because it isn’t the stereotypical mother who asks his son about food, marriage etc., but has several dimensions. There is a new temperament to the mother, and you will get to see a very different dynamic between Akshay, Katrina and me. This is a new, sweet and interesting space that I am looking to explore,” Neena told the daily.
Moreover, Neena said that she is glad about the fact that she has signed up for Rohit’s film and added, “I am happy that more people will get to see my work. Rohit has made some amazing films which have been appreciated by the audience.”

Neena Gupta had a fabulous 2018 as her film Badhaai Ho, co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Gajraj Rao, was a major blockbuster. Owing to the success of Badhaai Ho, Neena has been getting several offers but she is only accepting “new and challenging” roles.
“Badhaai Ho has given me a hit that I have wanted since I came into the industry 35-40 years ago. I have done many films before this, but not a lot of people saw my work,” Neena told the daily.
Sooryavanshi casts Akshay Kumar as ATS chief Veer Sooryavanshi while Katrina Kaif has been cast opposite him. The film is scheduled to release on Eid 2020.
