Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee will back a biopic on legendary musician RD Burman in collaboration with Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta of Fresh Lime Films, a leading daily reports. For the film, Prosenjit has acquired the rights of the musician’s biography titled RD Burman: The Prince of Music, authored by Khagesh Dev Burman.
Confirming the news to the daily, Prosenjit said that RD Burman had also composed music for his first direction Purushottam in 1992.
"For me, the music of Indian film industry is synonymous with RD Burman. When I directed my first Bengali movie (Purushottam, 1992), I was surprised when he agreed to compose music and also sing a song for it. It is high time we paid tribute to the God of the music industry,” Prosenjit told the daily, adding that he got the idea of converting the book into a film after reading the biography.
"We are happy to adapt this book that will bring the legend's journey to life,” Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta said.
Son of legendary musician Sachin Dev Burman, RD Burman, famously known as Pancham, has composed for around 331 films, including Masoom, Saagar, Mehbooba, Sholay, Yaadon Ki Baaraat and Caravan. He died at the age of 54 in 1994 in Mumbai.
Prosenjit Chatterjee is the star of films Autograph, Shob Charitro Kalponik and Praktan. He also appeared in the Hindi film Shanghai.
