Keeping it elegant was just being respectful to it: Deepika Padukone on her Met Gala 2019 pink carpet rendezvous

Deepika Padukone, who swayed and twirled into our hearts in an oh-so-gorgeous and Barbie-like pink ballroom gown at the Met Gala 2019 held on May 6, revealed that considering the dramatic nature of the theme of Camp: Notes on Fashion, keeping it elegant and beautiful was just being respectful to it. Deepika, in an interview with an International leading fashion magazine held during the gala, told that although her look resembles that of a Barbie doll, the primary idea behind the gown was drawn from the underground space. She said not Barbie but sea urchins served as a major source of inspiration to the creator of the gown-Zac Posen.

"I know eventually, I look like a Barbie doll which is what I am feeling like when the whole came together. I think Zac’s inspiration was more like underwater, it has these beautiful sea urchins and that is sort of the inspiration. I think taking the theme and keeping it elegant and beautiful because I think that’s what Zac is, that’s who I am and just being respectful to the theme,” Deepika told the magazine.

Furthermore, she spoke about the theme of the gala this year and said it is extremely personal for her as everyone's interpretation of 'Camp' is different. She also said, however, the theme suggests over-the-top styling, but it should be done elegantly and in a respectful manner.

"To start off with I think it is extremely personal. Everyone’s interpretation of Camp is always very very different. Of course, it is theatrical, it is drama and over-the-top but you want to do it in an elegant and respectful manner,” the 33-year-old actress told.
