Mahesh Bhatt has roped in actor Makarand Deshpande to essay the role of a Godman in his directional comeback Sadak 2, a sequel to his 1991 film Sadak. The film stars Bhatt Saab's daughters Alia Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt along with Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. The filmmaker had earlier informed a leading daily that he is in talks with a ‘great’ actor to play the godman in the story that chronicles Alia’s quest to expose a fake guru who runs an ashram.
A source close to the development confirmed the news to a leading daily and said, “It is an intense and challenging role, and Makarand has already started acting workshops with Bhatt saab. Like Maharani, played by Sadashiv Amrapurkar in the Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt-starrer Sadak, a unique look is being designed for him in the sequel.” Makarand and Mahesh Bhatt had worked together in the 1993 drama, Sir, which saw the latter in a character named Mak. Apart from Makarand, the film has another antagonist, Gulshan Grover who, as Pooja had informed with a post on April 27, was the first actor to receive the script. “It’s a strong and layered character with negative shades,” the source added. The film, which also features Aditya Roy Kapur and Pooja Bhatt in pivotal roles, goes on the floors on May 18 in Mumbai. “On the first day at a city studio, the team will shoot with Sanjay and Alia, with other members of the cast joining in at a later date. Apart from Mumbai, the film will also be shot at other locations of India.”
