Rajkummar Rao is an actor par excellence and the best part about him is that he does not have qualms of taking up roles that do not headline the film. In a chat show, he revealed that he was the original choice for Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak. Apparently, he was offered the male lead opposite Deepika Padukone who is not only the main lead but is also producing the film. However, he could not take up the role as his date diary was jam-packed. The male lead is now being done by Vikrant Massey.
Talking about turning Chhapaak down, Rajkummar said, “I didn't turn it down. Of course not! I loved that script but my dates were so messed up. I'm so looking forward to that film. I kept telling Meghna and Deepika that it's my loss." Chhapaak is based on the real-life story of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor and her partner and journalist-turned-social activist Alok Dixit. The film is currently being shot and the team recently wrapped their Delhi schedule.
In an earlier interview, Deepika has said, “Last year, when I was looking at scripts, I wasn't emotionally ready to do this sort of a film. I was really looking at doing a love story. Meghna walked into the office and took me through the story. In five minutes of speaking with her, I knew in my heart that this is what I wanted to do next. Something about Meghna herself, Laxmi's story and Meghna's conviction in this film... It was very similar to Piku. In just five minutes of meeting the director, I knew that this is the film I wanted to do.”
Chhapaak is scheduled to release on January 10, 2020.
