Aamir Khan-directed and produced Taare Zameen Par wasn't just a great film with a heart-wrenching message but it served as an eye-opener to a lesser known topic named dyslexia. After almost 12 years of its release, reports of a leading daily suggests that the film will be remade in Chinese for the audience in China. A source close to the film informed the daily that the project is still in the prep stage and will rope in local actor and will be bankrolled by a local production house.
"China does not permit the release of foreign films that are older than two years so that move was scuttled. Since the film rides on universal emotions, a collective decision of remaking it with a local star cast was taken recently. The remake will be produced by a local banner and will be directed by Ma Duo, who has previously worked as an assistant director on the Jiang Wen classic, Let The Bullets Fly. The project is currently in the prep stage," a source close to the film was quoted by the daily.
A still from Taare Zameen Par
Interestingly, Taare Zameen Par was one of the nine films that were screened to mark the 60th anniversary of Indo-China diplomatic ties in 2010 with English subtitles. If trade reports are to be considered, despite not getting an official release in China, Taare Zameen Par remains to be one of the highest rated foreign films on a popular Chinese film site named Douban. The film also among the most pirated films playing in China. China, of late, has become a big market for commercial as well as content driven Bollywood films. Ayushmann Khurrana's-Tabu's-Radhika Apte's 2018 released AndhaDhun crossed the 300-crore mark in the Chinese market. Apart from AndhaDhun, films like Dangal, Mom, PK and Secret Superstar did a great business too.
