Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra made their Bollywood debut with Karan Johar-directed film Student Of The Year in 2012 and went on to become inseparable friends and admirers of one another. But did you know this wasn't the scenario when the auditions for the film was going on? Well, as per reports in a magazine, Alia who was just 15 arrived at Dharma Productions' office for the audition in her school uniform with her mother Soni Razdan. Upon spotting her in the schoolgirl avatar, boys Varun and Sidharth, who were present during the audition, formed a perception against her and were reportedly not in favour of she being cast as the gorgeous bomb Shanaya.
While Alia was still in the Dharma office premise, Varun and Sidharth messaged Karan, keeping it straight and clear that they didn't approve of her as their potential Shanaya. ‘She’s too young,’ one of them wrote while the other complained that ‘she doesn’t look like a heroine’. Oh dear! It would have been such a big loss to the industry if Karan would have listened to these boys. Thankfully, Karan wasn't affected by the boys' opinion and was reportedly 'bowled over' by Alia's screen test but put her through a weight loss regime before he actually saw her as his lead. Sidharth and Varun realised that their opinion regarding Alia was wrong and till date kick themselves for trying hard to get her out of the film. All's well that ends well!
