Popular singer and Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh made his Bollywood debut in Abhishek Chaubey’s 2016 crime drama Udta Punjab and there has been no looking back for him since then. Currently, he has Dinesh Vijan’s quirky cop comedy Arjun Patiala alongside Kriti Sanon and Karan Johar's Good News, co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani and Akshay Kumar, in the pipeline. And now we hear that Diljit has been roped in for a yet-untitled comedy film, which will be bankrolled by Ramesh Taurani. What's more? He will be sharing screen space for the first time with Yami Gautam, who was last seen in Uri: The Surgical Strike and is currently busy filming Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Bala.
The producer confirmed the news to a leading daily and said, “Yes, Diljit and Yami have given their nod to the film. It’s a fresh pairing and we are excited because both are competent actors with impeccable comic timing. It is a sensible comedy and revolves around a couple.” Taurani further revealed that the film also features another teenage twosome and they are looking for new faces. “We also need another actress who has a crucial role to play in the narrative. The casting should be locked soon,” he added.
The upcoming project mark the directorial debut of Aziz Mirza’s son Haroon, who has assisted his father on films like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Yes Boss and others. Incidentally, it was the last script penned by Hera Pheri's and Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s screenplay writer Neeraj Vora who passed away in 2017. The film will reportedly roll in August and the team will meet for readings soon.
