The makers of Ayushmann Khurrana's Article 15 released the official trailer today. The film is about the murder of three Dalit girls, two of whom are found hanging from a tree, indicating that they have committed suicide after getting raped. Ayushmann's character Ayan is the investigation officer who tries to dig out the buried truth behind the brutal acts.
The opening voice-over by Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub Khan will keep viewers hooked to the gripping narrative and cinematography. With dialogue like, “Ye us kitab ki nahi chalne dete jiski ye shapath lete hai…” and one man’s fight to bring justice, Article 15 looks like a story that will change many narratives and open new forms of debate through it.
For the unversed, Article 15 is based upon 'Article 15 of the Indian Constitution' that reads, "Article 15 of the constitution states that no person shall be discriminated on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth."
Further in the trailer, the investigation begins and Ayan realizes that the entire issue is about casteism that prevails in the small village in Uttar Pradesh. He begins his fight to remind those who have forgotten the Fundamental Rights and Duties of the Indian Constitution that what's ethical and what's punishable.
Ayushmann puts forth a great performance which is quite different from characters he had portrayed in the past. Kumud Mishra acts as a sutradhar, and with an ensemble like Sayani Gupta, Isha Talwar, Manoj Pahwa and Namashi Chakraborty, the trailer will make the audience sit up and take notice of the choice of topic and its treatment.
Article 15 is written by Gaurav Solanki and Anubhav Sinha, who has also helmed the film. It is produced by Benaras Media Works and Zee Studios. The cinematography is by Ewan Mulligan and Yasha Ramchandani is the editor. Article 15 releases on June 28, 2019.
