David Dhawan is all set to revive his 1995 film, Coolie No.1, with an official adaptation, featuring his son Varun Dhawan alongside Sara Ali Khan. The two actors will step into the shoes Govinda and Karisma Kapoor from the original. And now we hear that the film will go on floors in Bangkok this August. “David ji is on currently on a recce in the Thai capital city. The overseas stint will be followed by a schedule in Goa,” a daily quoted a source close to the development as saying.
Earlier, David had helmed the remake of his popular Salman Khan starrer Judwaa and the reboot of his 1996 film featured Varun playing the identical twins. While the original was shot in India, the remake was shot in London. With Coolie No. 1 again, the makers are taking the film abroad to give it a fresh, contemporary vibe. “The idea this time too is the same as filming abroad gives the film a fresh vibe. The basic premise of a coolie caught between two girls remains the same but there are many new changes in the screenplay for it to appeal to today’s audience," added the source.
Incidentally, with Coolie No. 1 remake, David has kicked off the revival of the No. 1 franchise, for which he was known. Reportedly, Varun is all set to take the lead as David revamps the franchise. Although Coolie No. 1 is a remake, the other films that follow will apparently have original scripts.
Meanwhile, Coolie No. 1 is bankrolled by Vashu Bhagnani and the Dhawans. It is slated to release on May 1, 2020.
