Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, whose last film Kesari was one of 2019’s biggest hits, has proved to be the Most Popular Indian Actor abroad according to a trend study done by a Singapore-based video-on-demand streaming platform. Hard on Akshay’s heels are Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Varun Dhawan. Spuul, the online subscription-based video streaming service for Bollywood and regional movies headquartered in Singapore, conducted a trend study and prepared a report based on demographic data and consumption pattern about what Indians and the Indian diaspora are viewing. Akshay was found to be the ‘most watched’ actor according to the study.
The data was from January 1, 2018 to April 30, 2019 and gathered from more than 47 million registered Spuul users in India, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, US, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and the UAE. Spuul content is delivered via mobile phones, tablets, smart TVs, including Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, and Chromecast and via Spuul properties and applications (Web, iOS, Android). It hosts blockbuster movies from well-known banners like Dharma Productions, Red Chillies Entertainment and Fox Star amongst others.
