John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi to collaborate for Sanjay Gupta’s upcoming gangster drama

Six years after his crime-drama Shootout at Wadala, Sanjay Gupta is back in action as he is all set to direct another gangster-drama. The yet-untitled project is backed by T-series honcho Bhushan Kumar and is reportedly set in Mumbai of the 1980s and ’90s, inspired by true incidents of the decades. What's more? Sanjay, who last helmed Kaabil (2017) with Hrithik Roshan, is said to have brought John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi on board for the two-hero film, as reported by a leading daily.

“Key events like the shutting down of the mills and the murder of a prominent businessman in broad daylight to Bombay becoming Mumbai have been incorporated in the screenplay," the daily quoted a source, further adding, “The nexus between politicians, police, business fraternity and the underworld as well as the behind-the-scenes drama, which played a part in the changing landscape of the city, will also be there in the film." While John and Emraan have been part of gangster films individually, the upcoming film will mark their first collaboration.

Sanjay further confirmed the project in an official statement, "It's my third outing with John and I'm super excited to work with Emraan. I have always wanted to work with him and I am back to my base of film making -- gangster dramas and all I can say is...It's good to be home."

The film is slated to go on floors at the end of July and will reportedly be wrapped up by the year-end before John moves on to Milap Zaveri’s Satyameva Jayate 2. The makers are looking at a 2020 release and will finalise the female lead soon.
