Has Coolie No. 1 remake caused a rife between David Dhawan and Vashu Bhagnani? Here's the truth

Recently, rumours were doing the rounds that there has been a fallout between filmmaker David Dhawan and producer Vashu Bhagnani over the Coolie No 1. Apparently, Vashu wanted his son Jackky Bhagnani to play the lead role in the reboot while David's son Varun Dhawan was eventually finalised for it. However, in an interaction with a leading daily, David has quashed umours of a rift with his frequent collaborator and said, "There are absolutely no differences between us. Vashu and I have known one another for more than 25 years. We've always been on the same page." Vashu, too, has dismissed the report as “baseless”.

For those caught unaware, Vashu and David collaborated for the first time with Coolie No. 1 in 1995. They went on to team up for several films, including Hero No. 1, Gharwali Baharwali, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Biwi No. 1, Shadi No. 1, and Do Not Disturb. Now 24 years after their first collaboration, they are all set to team up again with Coolie No. 1.

Meanwhile, the remake of Coolie No. 1 will have Varun and Sara Ali Khan stepping into the shoes of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. Talking about the film, "Varun had earlier told a news agency, "When we do something like this the idea is that the essence has to be the same. But at the same time, the film is completely different. It is not a remake, it is an adaptation. But the title is the same," he had said.

The film is expected to go on floors in Bangkok in August, followed by a schedule in Goa. Coolie No. 1 reboot is scheduled to hit the theatres on May 1, 2020.
