Is Deepika Padukone game for a sports biopic? Allow her to give a perfect reply

Deepika Padukone is one of the most versatile actresses in Bollywood right now. From playing the role of a successful actress in her first film to stepping into the role of a warrior princess in her last release, Deepika surely knows how to stun her fans with her natural and effortless performance on celluloid. Now, the dimpled actress is all set to star opposite Ranveer Singh for the first time after marriage in Kabir Khan directed '83. During an interview related to the film, when Deepika was questioned about which sportsperson she would like to reprise on the screen, she was prompt to give an extremely cute reply and drop a hint at not doing one soon by naming her father, former badminton champion Prakash Padukone.

Giving a reason for taking her father's name, the doting daughter said achieving such success and legendary status is commendable as back then, sportspersons had limited facilities and exposure. She also told that veteran athletes inspire her the most. "I understand the gender issue (smiles). But if I had to play a sportsperson, then it would be him or any sports legend from that era. That’s because of what they achieved in the circumstances, within the limited exposure and knowledge versus the kind of funds, facilities and visibility available to athletes today. But in spite of all that, to achieve that greatness and legendary status is commendable. Our yesteryear athletes inspire me," Deepika told the daily.

Deepika, who will be playing the role of Kapil Dev's wife Romi Bhatia in '83 that features her husband Ranveer as the cricketer, said in earlier interviews that irrespective of who played the role of Kapil in the film, she would have still loved to play the role of Romi onscreen. The personal equation doesn’t spill over into the workspace. I can’t think of anyone else who could do justice to the role of Kapil Dev, but if there was someone else playing him in the film, and not Ranveer, I would still do my part. This isn’t coming from a personal equation, but from my passion and enthusiasm for the film," Deepika quoted.

Talking about Deepika and Ranveer professionally, they featured together for the first time in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Rasleela- Ram Leela in 2013 followed by Bajirao Mastani in 2015 and Padmaavat in 2018. Speaking of '83, the film apart from Deepika and Ranveer co-stars Saqib Saleem, Adinath Kothare, Chirag Patil, Harddy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Jatin Sarna, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Dinker Sharma, Jiiva, Sahil Khattar, Dhairya Karwa, Nishant Dahhiya and R Badree in important roles.
