‘My mother had been supportive to my father in his career’, says Deepika Padukone revealing the real reason why she chose to star in Ranveer Singh starrer ‘83

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are one of the most loved Bollywood couples. The actors who shared screen space in several films are once again teaming up in Kabir Khan’s ’83 that is based on Indian cricket team’s first World Cup win in 1983. However, this time around Deepika and Ranveer will play a happily married couple unlike their earlier films. Ranveer is essaying the role of Kapil Dev whereas Deepika will portray his wife Romi Dev on screen.

In a recent interview, Deepika said that she can connect to her role in ’83 as her father Prakash Padukone is a renowned Badminton champion too and she has seen her mother Ujjala Padukone being supportive of him. In a recent interview, she opened up on why she chose to portray Romi’s character in the film since ’83 is a sports film and will give more prominence to the actors who are playing sportsmen. To this Deepika said, “I play the role of Romi Dev, wife of Kapil Dev in the movie and she was instrumental in Kapil Dev’s success, especially when he was the captain. She was part of the support system and I feel connected to that. I always feel that in an athlete’s life the wife and family sacrifice a lot of their own dreams to support the vision of the athlete, the goals that they set and they end up sacrificing their own career. I have seen it in my own family. My mother had been supportive to my father in his career. I think to see the human side, to see what an important role family play in success of an athlete I took up this role.”
