Coolie No 1 remake: Paresh Rawal joins the cast of Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer?

It's known to all that David Dhawan is remaking his cult 1995 film Coolie No. 1, which featured Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer in the lead roles. While his actor-son Varun Dhawan was roped in for Govinda's role, Sara Ali Khan was finalised to step into Karisma's shoes for the reboot. Now, according to a report in a leading daily, actor Paresh Rawal has joined the cast of Varun - Sara starrer. The report further states that the veteran actor will play Sara's father in the film, much like how late actor Kader Khan was seen as Karisma’s father in Coolie No. 1.

"He plays the role of Sara’s father, Hoshiyar Chand, and the humour in the film revolves around his part. While the role in the original film was more in the orthodox zone, the new one has been tweaked as per modern sensibilities," the daily quoted a source as saying. Meanwhile, the makers are currently in Bangkok on a recce. As the comic caper is expected to go on floors on August 5, Paresh would reportedly join the leading pair in the first schedule, a 20-day shoot in the Thai capital. “After wrapping up the overseas shoot, the team flies to Goa to finish another big schedule of the film,” the source informed.

For the unversed, the original Coolie No. 1 featured Kader’s Hoshiyar Chand as a father of two daughters who wants to get them married into a rich family. “The story template of a coolie caught between two girls remains the same, but the cast and the screenplay have been tweaked,” the source added. While speculations are rife that makers are in talks with Disha Patani to play Sara's sister, however, the source revealed that “it’s not a big part, and the second female lead won’t be an A-lister."

The remake of Coolie No. 1 is set to hit theatres on May 1, 2020.
