The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, on Monday, released a list of 842 new members invited to join the Oscars organisation. Interestingly, four Indian film personalities have been invited as members, including Anupam Kher, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap. Joining them would be Ritesh Batra, the director of Photograph and Lunchbox apart from visual effects artists, Sherry Bharda and Srinivas Mohan. The official Twitter handle of The Academy announced, "Best. Day. Ever. We're excited to invite these 842 inspiring storytellers to the Academy. Tweet your welcome using #WeAreTheAcademy today."

As per reports, "A total of 29% of the new class revealed Monday are people of color, marking an 8% increase in that statistic since 2015. Among the new invitees, 21 are already Oscar winners and 82 are past Oscar nominees." Other members joining the Oscars Academy this year include Jamie Bell, Sterling K Brown, Jennifer Ehle, Tom Holland, Lady Gaga, Barry Keoghan, Tracy Letts, Damian Lewis, Elisabeth Moss, Archie Panjabi, Kevin Pollak, Amanda Peet, Alexander Skarsgard and two veterans, Jean-Louis Tritingnant and Claire Bloom.
For the unversed, in 2018, the list of Indian personalities invited to Oscars Academy included names like Shah Rukh Khan, Aditya Chopra, Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee and Naseeruddin Shah apart from Aditya Chopra and Guneet Monga.
