They are both the same age. And at 52, they are among the world’s fittest men. Not to forget, they are superstars of the screen, inspiring action heroes, and the idols of millions. Both also have backgrounds in the fighting arts and sports. And both also perform their own stunts and action in films. But there’s one thing that British-born Hollywood actor Jason Statham of Transporter, Expendables and Fast & Furious franchises does not know. That he’s Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar’s action idol.
This admission was made by Akshay himself this morning when, inspired by Statham’s Instagram video, the Khiladi attempted and succeeded in pulling off the breathtaking #BottleCapChallenge which he posted on social media himself and urged his zillions of fans to emulate. What is the #BottleCapChallenge? Simply, it’s a martial arts spinning back-kick that precisely takes off the cap of a standing bottle without knocking the bottle down.
Statham practiced Kung-fu, Karate and Kickboxing back in the day. And he was an avid footballer and Commonwealth Games level diver who made the British national swimming squad for 12 years. With his fitness and martial arts ability, the #BottleCapChallenge came natural and easy to Statham. And he lost no time in sharing the video on Instagram and Twitter sending his fans into a tizzy.
Akshay learned Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Karate in Thailand while working as a chef and waiter in an Asian restaurant. There’s no sport he will not try his hand at, no stunt he will back off from, and he’s constantly pushing his body to dizzying heights. With his determination and agility, Akshay also did the #BottleCapChallenge easily enough.
And now the Bollywood actor is excitedly inviting “Guys and Girls to get the bottle out and your legs in the air and do this” challenge. He will repost and retweet the best he sees. C’mon folk, if that is not inspiration and encouragement enough then what is? The hope that Akshay Kumar might give you a break in his next film? He just might, but try and ace the #BottleCapChallenge first.
