Hrithik Roshan is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Super 30, co-starring Mrunal Thakur, on July 12. However, ever since the film - based on the life of Patna-based mathematician Anand Kumar, was announced, it has been mired by controversies. From Anand Kumar getting accused of cheating to director Vikas Bahl being embroiled in the MeToo controversy, it has been a tough ride for the Super 30 team. The film was initially supposed to release on January 25, but the makers had to postpone the release date and Vikas' name was dropped from the directorial credit. It was only after Vikas was given a clean chit by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) that the filmmaker was reinstated as the director of Super 30.
Now in an interaction with a leading daily, Hrithik opened up on Vikas' sexual allegations row and shared how the tough times were worth it. "Yes, the journey of Super 30 has been tough, but I would like to believe that it is worth it. When the #MeToo movement broke out and Vikas’ name cropped up, I was perhaps the first one to take a rather tough stand. I completely support this movement and I sincerely believe that exploitative attitude towards women must stop." He added, "Also, if you think that this movement is the last step in achieving equality, then perhaps you are wrong. The pendulum of biases and injustice on both sides is going to swing back and forth quite a few times before it centres and comes to a standstill. Also, it’s important that we don’t make this process independent of law, and purely based on social media/conventional media hearsay. Let not the rhetoric become the mantra."
For the unversed, a woman crew member of Phantom Films had accused Vikas of sexual misconduct in October 2018. At that time Hrithik had said that he would not want to be associated with a person if he/she is guilty of such grave misconduct, and had requested the producers to take a stand.
Backed by Reliance Entertainment in association with Phantom Films and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, Super 30 is slated to release this Friday on July 12.
