Shahid Kapoor's and Kiara Advani's blockbuster Kabir Singh shows no signs of slowing down. After pipping Uri and Bharat to become the biggest Bollywood hit of the year so far, the film has now romped past the Rs 250-crore mark in the domestic market and is aiming to join the Rs 300 crore club. Although the film was slammed by many for glorifying "toxic masculinity" and not being as good as its original Arjun Reddy, it still remains unstoppable even after a month of its release.
Interestingly, recent reports suggested that post the success of Kabir Singh, Shahid has hiked his fee to around Rs 35-40 crore. In fact, a leading daily reported yeaterday that Shahid has asked for Rs 40 crore as remuneration for acting in the Hindi remake of another Telugu film called Jersey, which had Nani in the lead role. However, in a recent interview with an entertainment portal, Shahid opened up about the rumours of him hiking his fee post Kabir Singh success and said, “I have to sign a film to receive any money. I think the only people who are making money are Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani. I have exactly the same bank balance I had before Kabir Singh, I have to sign another project before I get paid."
Kabir Singh, which casts Shahid as a self-destructive lover, is the actor's first solo superhit after R... Rajkumar in 2013. The film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy - which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles, and draws heavy inspiration from the Devdas formula. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film features Kiara as Shahid's docile and shy lover. It hit the silver screens on June 21.
