It's already a month since Shahid Kapoor's and Kiara Advani's Kabir Singh released and took the box office by storm. The film had the house divided as some were awe of the film while some remained raged over its dark content. The controversy surrounding the film seemed to just settle down but aggravated further after the director of the film Sandeep Reddy Vanga's statement during an interview with an entertainment portal. Sandeep said if in a relationship, one can't slap the other, it can't be called love. Addressing this series of troubles that the film unexpectedly invited, Shahid, while giving an interview to a leading daily questioned that why the audience or critics failed to point out at Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju which also had scenes directing towards the sexual side. The actor added that he felt the criticism was a bit misplaced.
"So I frankly felt that the criticism was a bit misplaced. There have been films in the recent past which had characters exhibiting similar traits but no one really picked on them this way. To be candid, Sanju had a scene where the guy is sitting in front of his wife and saying he has slept with over 300 women. No one picked on it the way they went after Kabir Singh," Shahid told during the interview.

"This is not to say that I didn’t enjoy Sanju. I thoroughly did, because I didn’t watch it to see how people should be, I watched it to see how that character’s life is. The fact that people loved Kabir Singh has just told me that people watch the film for what it is. We were always honest, right from the very first promo of the film that it’s a fictional account of a very flawed character. There is no protagonist or antagonist in the film. Kabir is the protagonist, he is the antagonist. So all the issues lie within him," Shahid further added.
Kabir Singh, a Hindi remake of Sandeep's Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy which starred Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in lead roles, released on June 21.
