The quintessential bad-man of Bollywood, Gulshan Grover, has created a pathway into his life for his fans through his autobiography titled Bad Man, which lets readers into his journey as an actor, his personal and professional life and his struggle to becoming who he is today. The renowned actor, who launched his book on July 25 in New Delhi in the presence of B-town friends Suneil Shetty, Jackie Shroff and Mahima Chaudhary, expressed his gratitude for the love he has received over the years. Former Prime Minister L.K. Advani along with daughter Pratibha Advani were also part of the book launch.
In his authorized biography, Gulshan takes us on his life’s journey. From his ups and downs, his films, his failures, his successes, the industry in that era, to balancing Bollywood with other work and his international projects, and the magic to stay relevant, the book covers it all. Now, in a recent interaction with a leading daily, he revealed that initially, he was not inclined to telling it all in a book "as it is a big responsibility and you should not hurt anyone, especially those who are not alive to defend themselves." However, it all went away "after meeting the publishers. It was a wonderful experience to meet the Penguin team. I was happy to revisit my life." Gulshan, who claims to be involved with "every dot and comma in the book", further said, "I have not made any irresponsible statements" as he dedicated the book to filmmaker-son Sanjay, who he has raised as a single parent.
Interestingly, it was Akshay Kumar, who told him to copyright 'Bad-Man' title for his autobiography. Asserting that ever since Subhash Ghai's Ram Lakhan [1989], in which he mouthed [the words] Bad Man, it has stuck with him, Gulshan told the daily that he spoke about the book's title to co-star Akshay during the shoot of their upcoming film, Sooryavanshi. "He told me I should copyright it, like he has done for Khiladi," he quipped. Last but not the least, Gulshan said he hopes the book proves to be an inspiration for people to chase their dreams. "I am the first commercial actor who crossed into Hollywood long before Irrfan, Anupam Kher and Priyanka Chopra did," the veteran actor signed off.
