How lovely to reconnect with you in the ‘Autumn years’: Mahesh Bhatt pens a heartfelt letter to Sanjay Dutt on his 60th birthday

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt collaborated for the first time in 1986 with the cult crime thriller Naam. The film was a landmark project in both Sanjay's career and Mahesh's filmography. The worked again in 1988 film Kabzaa but it was Sadak, released in 1991, that went on to become the most successful film by the actor-director duo. Almost 20 years later, Sanjay and Mahesh are working on the sequel to Sadak, co-starring Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Pooja Bhatt. With Sadak 2 already in the works, no wonder both Sanjay and Mahesh leave no chance to take a trip down the memory lane, every now and then.

Interestingly, on the occasion of Sanjay's 60th birthday today, Mahesh wrote a heartfelt letter to him, in which he stated, "You are a man, entering the phase of your second babyhood," as reported by a leading daily.  Revealing how his passion towards work inspires younger generation of actors, like Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur, the filmmaker wrote, "Watching you now, I am absolutely convinced that as you touch 60, your “real” work, the work that stems from the “real” you, is just beginning."

Further admiring Sanjay for becoming a better individual each day despite swimming through aplenty bad times, Mahesh pointed out, "Today, the footprints of time, and real-life experiences are visible on your gorgeous face like never before. Your life proves that it is by suffering, and suffering alone, that one ceases to be just a mere acting machine. The periods of solitude that you have experienced in prison, face to face with suffering, have woken you up to deep love, compassion and understanding." Last but not the least, Mahesh expressed his delight to work with Sanjay again and signed off by saying, "In this industry, where there are no second acts, you have proved time and again to the world that has always been too keen to write your obituary, that you have the ability to re-invent yourself. How lovely it is to reconnect with you in the 'autumn years' of our lives, Sanju."

Sadak 2 is scheduled to release on July 10 next year and the Ooty schedule of the film recently got wrapped.
