Filmmaker Faraz Arif Ansari is gearing up to start shooting Sheer Qorma, which focuses on the subject of the LGBTQ+ community. Featuring Swara Bhaskar and Divya Dutta as lovers, the film now has a fabulous addition to the cast and it is none other than National Award-winning actress Shabani Azmi. Interestingly, Shabana will be seen playing Divya's mother in the film and the two actresses have earlier worked in JP Dutta’s Umrao Jaan, and Jayant Gilatar’s Chalk n Duster.
Confirming the news, Shabana informed a leading daily, “I was moved by the script which was recommended to me by Divya. After that, I met Faraz who came across as sincere, honest and deeply committed to the story. The bonus is working with Divya and Swara, so we figured out the dates and I said ‘yes' to the project. We had the first workshop last week and everything came together organically. I am looking forward to the shoot." Meanwhile, Faraz claims that Shabana’s character will not only resonate with mothers across but will also open a universal dialogue on parenthood. “Shabana ji’s character is the mother we all deserve—the Mother India of the 21st Century,” added the director.
The filmmaker plans to start shooting Sheer Qorma this week in Mumbai and release the film next year. Earlier, Faraz made a silent movie called Sisak and realised that stories about queer women are not explored enough even internationally.
