Last year when the #MeToo wave swept Bollywood, Anu Malik was also accused by several women of sexual misconduct. The result of this was that the music composer was dropped from the panel of judges of the music reality show Indian Idol 10 after the allegations surfaced. Now, Malik is back with a brand-new single titled Monday which he has written, composed and sung. In an interview with an entertainment portal, the music composer revealed that the song came from his present predicament of not having work and was extremely personal to him.
He said, “It came out of my pain of having work once upon a time and suddenly being out of work for no rhyme or reason. I always viewed life in a different way. For example, when I was flooded with offers and I was on radio, on television or giving music in films, I had so much work that I didn't know when morning came and when night came. Suddenly, one day I find no producers or television shows; I was just sitting at home.”

He further said, “I used to get up in the morning, sit in my car, my producers and directors were waiting for me or I had to reach the set for a television show or go to the studio for the radio show I was doing... Suddenly, it hit me that there's no phone buzzing. No one was calling me. The world around me was moving. There was a time when I would say, 'Yaar, thak gaye! Give me a break.' I would be working from Monday to Friday and I would just want to chill out on a Sunday. Suddenly, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday became my Sunday.”
He further spoke about how for him there is no greater love than work. Talking about work, Malik said, “There's a line in the song, 'Kaam se badh kar na koi mehbooba.' There's no better girlfriend than your own work because when it goes away, you realize how important it is. I was wondering, 'How do I get back into the game?' I said, let me get back through my talent and wrote this.” In his dilemma, Malik decided to use his own talent and came up with his single Monday.
