Karan Johar's period drama Takht, featuring an ensemble cast, to go on floors in February with a start-to-finish schedule?

In 2018, Karan Johar announced his upcoming directorial Takht, a period drama set against the backdrop of Mughal Era. Featuring an ensemble cast which includes Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor, Takht is certainly one of the most-awaited Bollywood films. In fact, a few months back, Karan had shared a video on his Instagram story, wherein his team is seen prepping for the project.

Now according to a report in a leading daily, Karan plans to take Takht on floors in the month of February next year with a start to finish schedule. "The film kicks off in February with a start-to-finish schedule. Being a period film, the technical team is presently focused on the sets and locations and the script, while also deciding on the diction and mannerism of the characters. Work on the visual effects will take place simultaneously with the shoot so the film is ready on time," the daily quoted a source as saying. Apparently, KJo would be conducting workshops for the lead cast for them to get the nuances of diction and body language right. "Everyone has a distinct look. While Anil will have to put on some extra kilos, Ranveer and Vicky will have to look lean and mean," added the source.

Interestingly, Takht is said to be a tale of two warring brothers, inspired by the fight for throne between Shah Jahan’s two sons, Aurangzeb and Dara Shukoh, played by Vicky and Ranveer respectively. Kareena, on the other hand, plays the duo’s sister, modelled on Jahanara Begum. Details about Alia's, Janhvi's and Bhumi’s roles are under wraps while Anil plays the patriarch. "Every character has been inspired by history and since Ranveer has dabbled in the genre a few times in the past, from playing Peshwa Bajirao to Allauddin Khilji, the goal is to make him look different from what he has already done," concluded the source.

Takht is expected to hit the screens in December 2020.
