Last year, Amit Sharma's Badhaai Ho, starring Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra, emerged as a sleeper-hit. Backed by Junglee Pictures, the social-comedy was appreciated by the audience and critics alike. And now adding to the excitement, we hear that Badhaai Ho is now getting a second instalment. According to a report in a leading daily, the film is being spinned off into a franchise and will be tentatively titled Badhaai Ho 2. Just like the original, it is expected to be a wholesome entertainer with a substantial subject at its core and a formidable ensemble cast. “The script has been locked, and the makers are on the lookout to finalise on the cast,” the daily quoted a source close to the development as saying.
For the unversed, Badhaai Ho narrated the story of Ayushmann's character Nakul Kaushik, who suddenly discovers his mother's (Neena Gupta) pregnancy, which comes as a shocker for his family. His struggle to come to terms with the news puts his plans of spinning dreams of a future with his girlfriend Renee (Sanya Malhotra) in jeopardy. However, the sequel will reportedly feature two couples. "The second instalment will revolve around the shenanigans of a joint family and two young couples," added the source, stating that the film will take off next year.
Well, we certainly cannot wait for this one!
Meanwhile, at the recently-concluded 66th National Film Awards, Badhaai Ho was honoured with the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment Award. Not just this, actress Surekha Sikri also won an award in the Best Supporting Actress category.
