The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, on his radio show titled Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, addressed the issue of ban on single-use plastic bags or products and called for a mass protest against the use of disposable plastic items from October 2, 2019, which marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Soon after the mass movement was announced, several Bollywood celebrities lauded the Prime Minister for his new initiative that will help the environment restore its goodness. Amongst many, the first one to extend a supportive hand was actor Aamir Khan, who has of late become the face of environmental movements in India.
Aamir, on his Twitter account, wrote, "The initiative by the Honourable PM to curb 'single-use plastic' is an effort all of us should strongly support. It's up to each of us to make sure we stop using 'single-use plastic'." In response to his note, Mr. Modi thanked and said, "Thank you @aamir_khan for the valuable support to the movement and to eliminate usage of single use plastic. Your encouraging words will inspire others to strengthen the movement as well."

During Mann Ki Baat, Mr. Modi told, "This year, when we celebrate Bapu's 150th birth anniversary, we shall not only dedicate to him an India that is Open Defecation Free, but shall also lay the foundation of a new revolution against plastic by people themselves throughout the country."
