A massive fire broke out on the set of Coolie No 1, starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, in Mumbai on September 11. The incident happened around 12.30 a.m. on Wednesday on the set, which is located at Filmistan studio in Goregaon. In a video shared online by a publication, fire fighters can be spotted on the set of the film, directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh. The incident happened just a few days after the makers of Coolie No 1 had announced that the set of the film had gone plastic-free.
While the film’s crew had escaped unhurt in the mishap, a report in a leading daily now suggests that some of the light equipment, part of the set and building material was damaged in the incident. And fire brigade has reportedly taken about three hours to put out the fire completely. “The major loss is that of the third party that supplied the material that was destroyed in the fire. The producers have estimated the loss at about Rs 2 crore to Rs 2.5 crore,” the daily quoted a source close to the development as saying. The damages are said to be covered under the Rs 125 crore insurance that the makers of the film and a surveyor from the insurance company visited the set recently to estimate the losses. “He will file his report soon and only then will the claim process begin," added the source.
Producer Jackky Bhagnani and David are yet to respond on the same.
Coolie No 1 is slated to hit the silver screens on May 1, 2020.
