Deepika Padukone, on Wednesday, grabbed attention for not just her gorgeous outfit for IIFA Awards 2019, but also made headlines for taking home an award for Chennai Express under the category of Best Actor(Female) in the last 20 years. Chennai Express, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, released back 2013. Soon, after the winner's list was pronounced, upon reading the actress' name as winner for her role in the Rohit Shetty directorial, the Internet was taken by storm, literally. Within hours of the announcement, active Twitter users began their meme fest and trolled the talented actress for putting behind several potential leading ladies behind.
Twitter, on Wednesday itself, kicked off a meme fest. From comparing Deepika with Rani Mukerji, Alia Bhatt, Vidya Balan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and several A-lister actresses, troller slammed the decision of handing over the Best Actor(Female) in the last 20 years to Deepika. Some users were surprised to find out that despite six years since release, the film's actors are still receiving awards while some took a dig at the awards and called them fake.

Speaking of Chennai Express, the film was a rom-com and went on to become of the highest grossers in the year of its release. It starred Deepika as Meenamma and Shah Rukh as Rahul, who eventually fall in love after their share of banters.
