Karan Johar, over the last 21 years, has given cinema a new definition with his style of filmmaking and interesting, heart-touching and beautiful narratives. The journey that began with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, Karan took the audience on memorable escapism with larger than life characters along with a human touch. Not just this, the filmmaker is also credited to launch some impeccable talents including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, who today, that is October 19, clocked seven years in Bollywood, as their debut film Student Of The Year celebrated its anniversary. Student Of The Year, along with the lead actors, has been an important film for Karan, who back then called the film his youngest one to date. Recalling the precious moments related to the campus rom-com, the filmmaker, on Saturday, on Instagram, called the members associated with it as 'a family I can proudly call my own'. He further tagged Alia as his daughter while thanking Varun for having his back and termed Sidharth as 'silent strong energy' in his life. An emotional Karan sent out his love to his protege with a clipping of SOTY attached.
"7 years ago I made a film and a family.....a family I can proudly call my own.... I look back at SOTY with abundant love in my heart...thank you @aliaabhatt for being my daughter ...for your infectious love and your large heart..for just being YOU! thank you @varundvn for being there for me always ...for having my back and calling me at odd hours to tell me what “not to do”...for your pure heart...I love you! Thank you @sidmalhotra for your compassion and sensitivity for also being the silent strong energy in my life....for giving me a shoulder whenever I needed a good cry! Love you! Love you three to the moon and back!! #7yearsofSOTY," Karan wrote.
Student Of The Year was directed and produced by Karan. The film was a campus rom-com revolving around rich brats and so-called lovers Shanaya(Alia) and Rohan(Varun), who become friends with a middle-class guy Abhimanyu(Sidharth). Soon, Abhimanyu falls in love with Shanaya, eventually making Rohan jealous, so much so that their friendship faces a rough patch. The enmity between the two snowballs when the college announces Student Of The Year trophy. Amidst all this, Shanaya grows fond of Abhimanyu and eventually opts for him over Rohan, despite the latter winning the trophy in the end. A sequel to this film was released in May this year with debutantes Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria sharing the screen space with Tiger Shroff. Student Of The Year 2 was produced by Karan and directed by Punit Malhotra.
