Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker is back with another film that will take the audience back in time. His upcoming film Panipat features Arjun Kapoor as the Maratha warrior Sadashiv Rao Bhau, who leads a northern expedition in order to repel the invading forces of Ahmad Shah Abdali (Sanjay Dutt), the king of Afghanistan. The recently launched trailer of the film, which also stars Kriti Sanon, has grand sets, a lot of sword wielding and blood bath.
However, now according to a report in a leading website, the Embassy of Afghanistan hassought a meeting with Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar over misrepresentation of former Afghan emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali in the film. In a letter written to Ministry of External Affairs, the Embassy mentioned, “Since the film is related to former Afghan emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali, any insensitive/distorted depiction of his character might provoke emotions of Afghans which could be unfairly exploited by others to adversely affect the trust and harmony that exists so well among the people of two countries."
Furthermore, the letter asked the ministry for a meeting between Tahir Qadiry, Charge d’ Affairs of the Embassy of Afghanistan, and Prakash Javadekar at the earliest to discuss the film. “The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi the assurances of its highest consideration,” the letter stated.
Panipat is produced by Sunita Gowariker under the banner of AGPPL along with Rohit Shelatkar's company Vision World. It is slated to release on December 6, 2019.
