Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which marks Ajay Devgn's on-screen reunion with wife Kajol, also features Saif Ali Khan, Sharad Kelkar and Pankaj Tripathi. Directed by Om Raut, it marks Ajay’s 100th film in Indian cinema. In fact, it was only yesterday that the makers unveiled a poster, which portrays Ajay in his starring role of Tanaji Malusare, the brave warrior leader in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The unique thing about the picture is that it has been digitally created out of a collage of various roles that the actor has played in his 28-year-old career, since starting out with Phool Aur Kaante in 1991.
Talking about the same, director Om revealed to a daily that he realised this would be Ajay’s 100th film only towards the latter half of the shoot. “He (Tanaji Malusare) was a husband, a father, a brother and a friend, and one of the greatest warriors of our country. Mr Devgn has the eyes, persona and physique which exudes power," he mentioned. Adding that Ajay was his first choice even before he had locked the script, Om pointed out, “At the same time, while staying true to the character and milieu, I had to add my own take as a filmmaker. It was difficult to recreate the 17th century world without many visual references. We even rebuilt the Mughal empire."

Interestingly, Ajay and Saif will share screen space after Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2006 film Omkara. Saif plays Udaybhan Rathod, who fought against Tanaji in the Battle of Sinhagad. On the other hand, Kajol will be seen as Tanaji’s wife Savitri. “Nobody has seen Kajol ma’am as a Maharashtrian before though she is half Maharashtrian," Om signed off by saying.
The period drama is slated to hit the theatres on January 10 next year. The film will be releasing in 3D.
