PeepingMoon was the first one to inform its readers on October 29, 2019 that it will be Mrunal Thakur who will be seen opposite Shahid Kapoor in Jersey remake. We have been proven right, yet again! Shahid has found his leading lady for Jersey remake. And it's not Rashmika Mandanna who was supposed to make her Bollywood debut with this film. Rashmika apparently preferred her South projects over this sports-based emotional drama leaving makers on the lookout for a new heroine. 

PeepingMoon had learned that Mrunal Thakur has been finalized to play the leading lady. The Television actress who made her film debut last year with a hard-hitting drama titled Love Sonia has been slowly and steadily growing with each film and has made a mark with box office hits like Super 30 and Batla House. The makers of Jersey remake apparently approached her after Rashmika turned down the film. Now Mrunal confirmed our news to a leading daily and has officially signed the film and will kick off the shooting in December.

She admitted she was “bowled over by the passionate emotional journey” of the Telugu original. Barely able to contain her excitement over landing the coveted role, the actress said, “So deep was the impact of the film that I couldn’t get it out of my heart the whole night, and immediately watched it again the next day. It felt like I had lived a full lifetime in two hours.”

For director Gowtham Tinnanuri, the actress was always the first choice. “After Shahid came on board, I only had Mrunal in mind for the lead. I loved her performance and confidence in Super 30. She’s a perfect fit for this part in Jersey,” he asserted.
