Sanjay Leela Bhansali reveals 'Baiju Bawra' is his biggest challenge as a composer

It won't be wrong to say Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a magician of films. The veteran, over the years, has been responsible for bringing out the best of visuals and acting skills that are hidden within an actor and there ain't a denial. Be it the heartwarming saga in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam or the grandeur and spectacle in Padmaavat, Bhansali has done it all. Apart from the visual and acting department, Bhansali caught the attention of the audience with an interesting and soulful array of songs from his treasure of masterpieces. Composed by himself, the songs have played an important role in the cinematic experience, leaving the viewers spellbound. Similarly, after years of expertise, the Bajirao Mastani director is all set to film his first full-fledged musical titled Baiju Bawra. The venture derives its name from the 1952's classic starring Meena Kumari and Bharat Bhushan. Talking about Baiju Bawra, Bhansali, in an interview, called it to be his biggest challenge as a composer. He further stated that matching the level of the first film is beyond imagination.

"I am not even thinking of the colossal music Naushad saab did in 'Baiju Bawra' in 1952. It is impossible to scale those heights," Bhansali told.

Speaking of roping in a female singer as a replacement of Lata Mangeshkar, the ace filmmaker agreed that matching and living up to Lataji's standards is highly impossible but he will try to echo her voice with a notable singer. "Who can sound as pristine and sublime as Lataji did in 'Mohe bhool gaye saawariya' and 'Bachpan ki mohabbat' in the earlier 'Baiju Bawra'? There can never be another singer like Lataji. But I will continue to look for echoes of her voice in all the female singers I work with," Bhansali added.

As per reports, a new singer will be introduced for Baiju Bawra's latest adaptation. In the original, Mohammad Rafi scaled unparalleled heights of self-expression with songs like O Duniya Ke Rakhwale and Man Tadpat Hari Darshan Ko Aaj, which are remembered vividly to date. Hindustani classical doyens Ustad Amir Khan and DV Paluskar were also part of the male playback team.

Baiju Bawra will be a musical drama based on the maestro who sought revenge for his father's death in the court of Akbar. According to PeepingMoon.com sources, Ranveer Singh will be playing the titular role while Ajay Devgn is said to be Tansen. As per reports, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is being considered for the female lead. The film will release on Diwali 2021.
