RIP Priyanka Reddy: Rishi Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Mahesh Babu and other celebs demand justice for Hyderabad victim

At a time when the entire nation demands severe punishment for the accused in the 25-year-old woman veterinarian gangrape and murder case, Bollywood stars also have opened up voicing their protest against the brutal crime. Demanding capital punishment for the rapists, Rishi Kapoor tweeted, "I support Capital punishment for rapists! This has to stop!" The veteran actor also shared a post which reads, "Humans are alive but what about humanity!! One more incident, one more innocent, what was her fault? Constitution gave everyone same and equal right so why such discrimination? It shook everyone.

Reacting to Rishi Kapoor's tweet, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar tweeted, "The 4 convicted rapists/killers of Jyoti Singh were given capital punishment. It has now been 7 years. They are still alive. That's how grindingly slow the wheels of justice on a (fast-tracked!!) case that shook this country to its core have turned. It's pathetic. @chintskap".

Richa Chadha has also tweeted on the same. Reacting to a journalist's tweet, the actress wrote: "Could've saved a life!" adding the hashtag.

Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu too has reacted to the heinous gang-rape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinarian on the outskirts of Hyderabad on November 27. The actor took to Twitter to appeal to the government demanding capital punishment for the accused in such brutal crimes.

Meanwhile, singer Sona Mohapatra and filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava have focussed the root cause of the problem, the patriarchal mindset which has been dominating the Indian society since ages. Alankrita is of the opinion that "in our country misogyny is accepted, violence against women is normalised and patriarchy encourages crimes against women". Sona feels that the society is unnecessarily preachy towards women and most of the times a girl is held responsible for a crime committed against her.

The brutal gang-rape and murder of the Hyderabad-based veterinarian has once again pointed fingers at the issue of women's safety in India. The incident has left the entire nation in a state of shock. As a result, social media is abuzz with protests with netizens demanding stricter laws and capital punishment for such heinous crimes.
