The horrific and brutal gangrape and murder of a female veterinary doctor in Hyderabad has brought shame and elicited outright outrage from everyone right from celebs to common man. Many have suggested some choicest punishments that should be meted out to the culprits. In the same fray, another name has joined that is of Samajwadi Party MP, Jaya Bachchan who earlier in the day spoke about the rape case in the Parliament and suggested that the rapists should be subjected to a public lynching.
She said, “Such people be brought out in the public and lynched.” The 26-year-old woman was gangraped and her body was set on fire and dumped near a toll booth in the Telangana capital that has sent shockwaves across the country with hundreds of women taking to the streets to voice their outrage. However, Jaya’s comment has the Twitter divided as many applauded her suggestion but many saw a problem as a lawmaker was calling for mob justice for the criminals irrespective of how heinous, gruesome and horrific the crime may be. Check out the tweets below.

Not Just #JayaBachchan, Mothers of accused in Priyanka Reddy's case too demand that perpetrators should meet the same fate as victims
Crimes against women will become a norm of the day unless stringent measures are taken#JusticeForDisha #LynchRapistsDemand #Lynching

Absolutely madam. I think this is the best suggestion. the greatest of fear in someones life is getting lynched by public. #jayabachchan govt should introduce this legislation to punish the culprits of gangrape. I think juvenile act should be relooked too.#MondayMotivation pic.twitter.com/gIZyBbdFhb

#PriyankaReddyCase: If you have not been able to provide security then leave it to the public to give judgment. Those who failed to provide security and those who committed the crime should be exposed in public: MP #JayaBachchan.
very well said @JayaBachchan.

The way #JayaBachchan used Lynching so easily inside Parliament without even giving second thought, speaks a lot about how serious Law Makers are about Lynching in our Lynchistan
— Sarcasm™ (@SarcasticRofl) December 2, 2019
#JayaBachchan was silent when Mulayam Singh (on Nirbhaya Case) said, rape is just a mistake committed by boys
Silent when #AzamKhan made despicable underwear comment on Jaya Prada
Because both were her party Leaders
Now grandstanding with stupid suggestion in Parliament https://t.co/KHKWonWIaU

#JayaBachchan is a member of parliament. A lawmaker, like a court judge should leave emotion and personal bias at home, and act according to law & constitution.
JB was out of line and irresponsible in supporting lynching. Exemplifies the quality of our lawmakers.

#JayaBachchan
What kind of lady is she? Instead of pressurising the law, enforcement agencies to expedite scientific investigations and fast trials, she is instigating people to lynch accused and take law in their hands. She should be sacked from Upper House.— Tanvir Khan (@Tanvir_2222) December 2, 2019
Knee jerk reactions have never solved any problems. #JayaBachchan you should have atleast displayed some maturity before opening your mouth.

#JayaBachchan lynching is also a crime.

How can justice and lynching go together ? To ask for stricter laws to punish rapists is one thing and to ask for
lynching is different. Such irresponsible statement from an elected minister! #JayaBachchan https://t.co/cWhkczv2XO— Avinash Ega (@__aega__) December 2, 2019

Unsure if lawmaker #JayaBachchan understands what 'rule of law' even means. Never expected such a bizarre comment from someone as accomplished as her. https://t.co/SmJIv03uyT

Do you know there is a presence of legal system and rule of law in our country.
Country isn't a Bollywood.

Jaya Bachchan is well-known for very strong opinions about matters but this is invariably taking it too far. An eye for an eye is not exactly a solution and her suggestion will create more lawlessness in the nation.
